Context: This week I edited & filmed my documentary about the Global Academy.
Research:
For Research into filming, I looked at how Casey ninestat films his videos and took inspiration from him to allow me to get a better understanding of that style of video and shooting. I also had a look online in places such as masterclass for more information on the best ways to shoot and how to create a professional style whilst filming.

For Editing research, I watched THIS Youtube Video and how they do it whilst also looking elsewhere online for more inspiration.
As I wrote the script last week there was no need to do further research into the academy.
However, I did do some research into the software that I chose to edit on and also into shot types to allow me to get a better understanding of what I was going to do whilst filming.
I Looked into adobe premiere pro and how to use that and decided to use it as my editing software as it’s used by many and is often said to be the industry standard for this type of project.
I also had a look into cameras and shot types and chose to use my iPhone to film this as cameras on iPhones now can film in 4K, in terms of shot types and angles I did research into these to give me a better idea on what to do when I film. I’ve linked the sites I use below
Stylistic Research:
For stylistic research, I went for a vlog style however once I started filming changed this but I watched videos created by Casey Neistat to help give me ideas on how he creates his videos/documentaries. I found this useful as it gives me an idea of how to do it and provides a professional look and feel.
For editing, I also applied what I learnt previously using the software and the Casey Neistat style.
Practical Skills
In terms of practical skills, during filming using my phone I filmed myself and set it up so that I was in shot ideally central to the frame as this looks pleasing to the eye. I then went around the site and got B-Roll.
The majority of my documentary is VoiceOver so I then went into a studio to record the audio. I said the script twice allowing me to choose what version sounded better and mixed them.
This image shows the final Voice-over which I then normalised and processed before importing back into premiere pro.

For editing using premiere pro, I added all my footage in a rough order to the timeline then I used tools such as the Razor tool to chop footage down to remove unneeded moments. I also used the Track Select Forward Tool to move the timeline forward to add more footage where it was necessary. I added the background music and then ducked it using keyframes so that it didn’t overpower the voice and sounded clean.

This image shows the final timeline with the subtitle tracks, the 2 songs and all the footage
Once I had finished editing I used Adobe Media Encoder to export my video into an .MP4 Using the H.264 Format in 1080P, As this is high quality, low file size and suitable for Online use whilst also looking professional.
Evaluation:
WWW: The final video is professional and features a mix of Presenter to camera, voice-over and B-Roll & Images.
EBI: On the heart clip if I could get a higher quality version so it looks
better and doesn’t stick out being lower quality.
WWW: The overall cuts, transitions & feel of the video work well providing a professional look.
EBI: If I had captions the entire way through the video
