YEAR 13
fmp – Research
Research Portfolio
When deciding what to do in my show I Looked at my besk links throughout the year that audiences interacted with and followed a lot of the station’s format. The show is 3 hours long and on air 5 days a week, it should include a range of content and features that I know that the listeners engage with and also be local as per our key commitments.
From Further research I conducted myself I found out that I should keep my links to 1-3 minutes to not bore the audience and keep them engaged.
AUDIENCE
For this project, the target audience is AIR Listeners so the content is aimed at 16-40 year olds who live in Weymouth & Portland and listen to AIR 107.2!
I Sent out a questionnaire to get people’s opinions on radio and breakfast radio in particular and to help me get a better understanding of the audience and the content they want to consume.s
I sent out a survey across my Social media and used AIR’S Online accounts to help share it to gain as many responses as possible to help me! (7)

STYLISTIC/STORY RESEARCH
I Had a listen to other people’s shows including national and local to give me a better idea of how to structure mine and what to include in terms of content, features, link types and production.
I also looked into Breakfast radio and its history, and how it got to where it is today. Examples of this include:
The Chris Moyles Show – The show is a Zoo-style show where Chris has his team on the show to help add to it and the overall vibe of the show. It’s a 3-hour show originally on Radio 1 And now on Globals Radio X The show has little music and lots of chat between the team as per most radio shows that follow the zoo format. It has lots of features that helps break up the show for the audience to engage with. Seeing these features work well is what gave me the idea to do more on my show.
Greg James on Radio 1 – This show is a CHR-style radio show on a CHR Station! The show is similar to what i would like to have mine like eventually. The show has a range of features that Greg uses to engage with the listeners with things like when listers “takeover” the airwaves and also unpopular opinions where they get callers on with celebs to give unpopular opinions.
Heart Breakfast Show – The UKS Biggest commercial radio show. This show mainly features celeb news and gossip and promoting other big things happening across the UK, They occasionally get people to text however apart from competitions they do not have much interaction like with features that the others do.
