Context:
This week I picked a theme for my short documentary and then wrote the script for it, I chose the Global Academy and how it came to be.
Research:
To write my script I used Word as this syncs between all my devices and is easily accessible and works well for my needs.
For story research, I used sites such as The Global Academy’s Website, Case Studies on the school and the staff’s knowledge of the place to help me create the script.
For stylistic research, I went for a vlog style so watched videos created by Casey Neistat to help give me ideas on how he creates his videos/documentaries. I found this useful as it gives me an idea of how to do it and provides a professional look and feels.
Practical Skills:
In terms of practical skills, I spent the week going through online websites and talking to staff to generate ideas.
Then I Used Microsoft Word and typed the ideas down to create a small script with ideas, this was then used to create a synopsis that I planned the video out with and what each part of the documentary should feature and have within that part.
Using both the synopsis and small ideas script I had I then created a longer script that suited the style and feel that I was going for. After spending an evening away from it I decided to go back and change and changed some wording to create a better effect. In the end, I created A third and final version that was a mix of the other two scripts to find the best bits that suited what I visioned well.
I also started to get B-Roll, that I could use for my documentary.
Evaluation:
WWW: The Script works well and suits the style of filming that I was aiming for.
EBI: The script was longer featuring more details about the school, meaning the documentary lasted longer.
WWW: The Script writing process went well and helped me better understand how to write it.
